These cars are the most performance-oriented cars from the big 3, how would you pick them? To make it interesting I’m going to hit you with a counterpoint for DD/Track choices.
Chevy Corvette Z06
Dodge Viper GTS
Ford GT

DD: Viper, Track: GT, Burn: Z06
![]() 05/10/2015 at 09:59 |
|
I think the Viper would be very hard to live with as a DD.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:03 |
|
I'd make do. Or I would swap it with the GT
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:07 |

DD: GT, Track: Z06, Burn: Viper.
That V10 is miserable.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:07 |

I’m there with you. The Z06 and c7’s are so common now I’d want my DD to have some more exclusivity. Have yet to see a new Viper, or even very many older Vipers. Though the GT would make a pretty nasty DD too.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:11 |
|
DD/Track: All of ‘em
Burn: Nope.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:12 |
|
Bingo.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:14 |
|
Would you be able to live with the Z06 going into limp mode? The Viper doesn’t go into limp mode.
Then again, the Viper also cooks the driver to an internal temperature of 165*F, something the Corvette doesn’t do.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:17 |
|
by limp mode you mean it turns the boost back during engine break in? its not like it dials it back from 650 from 2hp. Plus it wouldn’t stay stock for long...
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:24 |
|
No I mean that things start to overheat after a few laps and it reduces power.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:29 |
|
yes, it dials back the boost a few pounds. big whoop. the selling poing of the car is a suspension that actually works. unlike the viper.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:32 |
|
It works because it’s GMs latest version of Magnetic Ride Control, a world-class suspension system bested by none (imho). They’d have to try very hard to go and fuck it up.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:39 |

DD: Viper
Track: Z06
Burn: Supercar with a crossover engine
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:40 |
|
Track: Z06, DD: Ford GT, Burn the viper.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:42 |

This has been mostly debunked at this point. Plus if it was an issue, you can change the ECU to something more aggressive. As for the warranty being invalidated, I don’t think that will be much help anyway if you’re only tracking the car.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:45 |
|
DD: Z06
Track: Viper
Burn: GT ... sorry, the thrill is gone
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:47 |
|
Same.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:48 |
|
DD: Z06
Track: Viper GTS
Burn: GT
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:48 |
|
DD Viper
Track GT
Burn Z06
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:06 |
|
You wouldn’t find the Viper hard to live with on a daily basis? It does have an attitude problem you know.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:08 |
|
Would you be fine with driving the Viper as a DD? As someone said in another comment, that V10 is miserable.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:09 |
|
DD the Vette
Track the Viper
Burn the GT, yep, all automatic 6 cylinders of it.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:10 |
|
What makes the Viper a better track car than the others?
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:10 |
|
Can't argue with that!
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:12 |
|
Based on performance for the money wouldn’t the GT be least rewarding? It is $300k more than the other two you know.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:13 |
|
Is the Viper a better track weapon? Isn't the Z06 more precise?
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:15 |
|
Is the Viper a better track weapon than the Z06? Isn't the Chevy more accurate in handling, etc.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:20 |
|
I’ll find a way.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:23 |
|
I mean, no one has driven it so it’s hard to say. Plus the performance figure they put out was “600+”. Either way I thought this was fantasy based, not cost based. If it was cost based, I feel like no one would go for the GT.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:25 |
|
This isn't necessarily cost based, I was just stating how much more the car really is. Some people I'm sure would take GT regardless of price difference but most here seem to haves selected to burn it.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:25 |
|
Mainly, its not forced induction and the suspension setup is simpler. For the most part, I think the Viper still a meat and potato car if you want to modify suspension/chassis.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:30 |
|
Good answer! I threw you a counterpoint and you threw one right back at me. I actually think the Viper is the better track car.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:34 |
|
I've driven one, miserable is the last thing I would use to describe it
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:34 |
|
I didn't think it was miserable. What is so miserable about it?
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:37 |
|
C7 Z06 is probably good for an occasional track day event (drag or road course) but otherwise if you’re going dedicated track car (in this era) then the Viper is the way.
Side note: The C5 and C6 Z06 are still popular track car choices.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:40 |
|
Its a Chrysler LA motor with 2 extra cylinders tacked on.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:40 |
|
I agree. I’ve seen atleast 5 new vettes in the last 3-4 days. I love how rare the viper is, but I have yet to see a new one outside of a car show.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:46 |
|
DD: Ford GT. Sell Z06, Viper. Track: Viper ACR with the new monies!
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:48 |
|
DD GT Do you even fuel economy bro?
Track Viper If I can learn to handle a Viper on the track I may start growing chest hair.
Burn Z06. too damn ugly.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:56 |
|
And?? Does it make 8/10 of the power of the viper v10?
The noble m600 has a Yamaha v8 from a Volvo?
![]() 05/10/2015 at 11:58 |
|
my point is the Viper v10 is not a power dense engine. it is old, and should die. plus it sounds like garbage.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 12:08 |
|
DD: Z06
Track: GT
Burn: Viper
![]() 05/10/2015 at 12:15 |
|
Guaranteed the GT will get worse fuel economy than the V10 powered Viper haha. Turbo engines with that kind of power are hard to be conservative, even if you’re trying your hardest. Not that it matters in these cars anyways.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 12:17 |
|
Mmmmm, Viper ACR.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 12:18 |
|
The Viper will probably be more home on the track than the other 2, wouldn’t you want the best weapon?
![]() 05/10/2015 at 12:21 |
|
It’s pretty close to the c7 na in terms of volumetric efficiency, and VE generally goes down once engines get bigger, so I’d say it’s fairly dense. I’ve driven a viper and I enjoyed the responsive low end torque you’d expect from a 8.4 liter Vanything, but I was blown away by how it didn’t lose steam when revved out. Where the engineering comes through on that engine is how it’s happy at any rpm.
And the Chrysler v8 doesn't come from the factory with forged pistons
![]() 05/10/2015 at 12:44 |
|
It did from 68-71 on the 340. you’re missing the point that The V10 is significantly heavier but doesn’t make more power than the new V8’s
![]() 05/10/2015 at 13:20 |
|
I think they are pretty close, with the Z06 having the edge. But I would rather DD the Z06, more comfortable, decent mpg, etc.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 13:24 |
|
Fair enough! I'd rather DD the Vette as well.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 13:56 |
|
False. That V10 is glorious.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 14:12 |

DD: Viper - My current obsession among modern cars and I wanna drive that sexy mama every chance I get!
Track: GT - Despite being automatic-only, I suppose since it's just my track car I can put up with it since it'll help lap times and concentrating and all that bullshit.
Burn: ZO6 - I really couldn't see putting any of these three cars on the "burn" list, but it had to come down to one and since the ZO6 reportedly only allows for a limited amount of hard driving before going into limp mode, yeah it made it a little easier for me. Screw that noise.
Regardless, the Viper is all I'd need. I want it. I need it in my life.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 14:16 |
|
I think it’s fantastic! I was just trying to have some sort of counterpoint that I hadn’t already used 16 times
![]() 05/10/2015 at 14:19 |
|
Fair enough! Personally I'd burn the GT, track the Viper and DD the Vette but that's just my preference. I think the Viper would be stupidly fun on the track. The Vette can be tamed and quiet on the streets and a monster when you want it to which is why I'd DD it.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 16:09 |
|
At home at the drag strip, sure, but sometimes a V10 is a little much.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 16:57 |
|
Very true.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 18:15 |
|
I’m willing to bet it’s because so many oppo’s are having an affair with Manuel.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 20:08 |
|
But the Z06 is more livable, and the Viper is more difficult to drive daily.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 21:36 |
|
Very true.

dd = Dodge Challenge Hellcat manual
track = Dodge Challenger Hellcat manual
burn = Mustang / Corvette /Camaro
